These are the basics: I write books and articles for children and young adults. Blue Thread is my eleventh book, and the first one in which I have knowingly stretched the truth. In addition to the biography of me on my author’s website, I offer you the following:
Being born and raised within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean, the core of me is still the little girl pictured here on the jetty in Long Branch, New Jersey. I wonder how I would be different if I grew up in Indiana.
I crave pistachio nuts.
I write best in the mornings and play best in the afternoons.
I enjoy walking in the rain—most of the time—which means that the winters here in Portland suit me just fine, as long as I have a ready supply of good books and dark chocolate.
I am a middle child. Some people tell me that birth order is very significant. I leave it up to you to decide.
I have been known to help escort ladybugs and other assorted insects to the more nourishing world outside my living room.
My parents called me Rickie because they hoped I would be a boy. I’m still Rickie to some friends and relatives. Feel free to call me Rickie.
Count me among those writers who use serial commas.
I belong to Viva Scriva, an astonishingly creative and sustaining critique group.
I like to eat with my fingers.
